Flexible Hybrid Electronics

Flexible hybrid electronics (FHE) is an innovative approach to electronic circuit manufacturing that combines printed electronics with conventional electronics. Conductive interconnects, and where possible, additional components are printed onto a (flexible) substrate. The ICs (integrated circuit) and other conventional electronics are mounted on the same substrate after the printing step. This resulting hybrid of ‘printed’ and ‘placed’ functionality provides the flexibility of printed electronics, with the processing capability of the conventional electronics. FHE are not only flexible but also thin, lightweight, and has a lower environmental impact compared to conventional PCBs.With the unique features of FHEs it is possible to place electronics into products that are not suitable for traditional PBCs, such as wearables, smart labels, (intergraded) industrial sensors, and even in glass.
